You don’t have to venture far afield to be wowed by jaw-dropping landscapes. Scotland’s North Coast 500 is a must-do road trip that showcases breathtaking scenery of powder white beaches, marvellous Munros, gleaming lochs, historic castles and traditional fishing villages. It’s so much more than just a road trip. On this holiday, we explore a section of this popular circuit that has been described as ‘Scotland’s Route 66’. Our itinerary features Wick, a lively harbour town on the east coast of Caithness, as well as far-flung John O’Groats and a tour and taste at Dunnet Bay Distillery. Our NC500 route continues, taking in the remote and pretty as a picture hamlets of Tongue and Durness, then onwards to the fishing village of Ullapool. Finally, we arrive at Grantown-on-Spey where you’ll have an evening of traditional Scottish entertainment to round off your Highland getaway. Superb treats along the way take in nineteenth century Mary Ann’s Cottage, Inverewe Gardens and picturesque Poolewe.
