5 Day Coach Holiday

The market town of Carlow nestles at the confluence of the rivers Barrow and Burrin and makes a picturesque base for this delightful holiday. It has a rich tapestry of history woven through its ancient streets with architecture telling the story of its growth since the arrival of the Normans in the twelfth century. Perhaps view the castle ruins or browse the arts and crafts boutiques. We explore the Wicklow Mountains, the largest of Ireland’s national parks with chocolate box vistas showcasing untamed forests, twisting mountain roads, fast flowing streams, the verdant Glendalough valley and pretty Avoca. Another gem is the charming city of Kilkenny which stands on the banks of the River Nore and is where you’ll find pleasant parks and an imposing castle. We also spend a day in Waterford – a thousand-year-old city, founded by the Vikings, with a lively waterfront, atmospheric streets, and a great sense of history.

Your Excursions

Wicklow Mountains National Park & Avoca
A day in the spectacular Wicklow Mountains National Park and the valley of Glendalough. These areas of outstanding natural beauty feature historic sites such as the Monastic city with its round tower and churches, along with native woodland that is home to sika deer, feral goats, red squirrels, pine martens and peregrine falcons. We then call at the quaint and quintessentially Irish village of Avoca.

Kilkenny
This bijou yet charming city abounds with historic treasures. Step behind the imposing stone walls of Kilkenny Castle, see the soaring eaves of St Canice’s Cathedral, view the stained glass of medieval Black Abbey or explore Rothe House – a unique sixteenth century townhouse. Elsewhere, you’ll find the Kilkenny Design Centre shopping mall with its Irish handcrafted gifts, and St Mary’s Church, which houses the Medieval Mile Museum, filled with artefacts and sculptures.

Waterford
Waterford was founded by Vikings, is Ireland’s oldest city, and home to a museum chronicling its past. Perhaps walk through a thousand years of history in the city’s Viking Triangle with its quirky nooks and crannies, filled with ancient landmarks, craft studios and welcoming cafes. Maybe visit Waterford Crystal where two centuries of crystal creating unfold.
