This holiday of contrasts is based in the traditional market town of Tubbercurry in County Sligo, where we stay at popular Murphy’s Hotel. Resting at the foot of the Ox Mountains, Tubbercurry features quaint streets and is close to Knocknashee - the legendary “Hill of the Fairies” and one of the seven sacred hills of Ireland. We venture out to quaint Cong where the 1952 classic movie, The Quiet Man was filmed then continue to Westport, an enchanting town on the edge of an Atlantic inlet with a Georgian town centre and stone bridges linking a tree-lined promenade on the banks of the Carrowbeg River. We feast our eyes on the beautiful riverbanks the poet, W.B. Yeats described when we cruise on Lough Gill aboard the Rose of Innisfree. Another treat is a visit to King House, a lovingly restored Georgian mansion where you’ll find Irish history exhibitions and cultural collections alongside the grandeur of a distinguished manor. We also call at colourful Carrick-on-Shannon, the thriving county town of County Leitrim with a modern marina that gives access to the River Shannon.
