Gorgeous Gairloch boasts sandy beaches and mountain scenery. We visit the town’s museum, which is housed in a converted nuclear bunker and showcases local history and heritage. We head to Inverewe Gardens, an oasis of exotic plants perched on a peninsula and overlooked by splendid Inverewe House. We also enjoy a scenic drive over the Skye bridge for a refreshment at the Kings Arms Hotel, and visit romantic Eilean Donan Castle, set on a small island at the confluence of three lochs. This fairytale fortress has a visitor centre and within the fortified walls you’ll find period furniture, Jacobean artefacts, art and ancient weapons. A morning visit to Ullapool completes our holiday. Our base is the popular Gairloch Hotel.
