Our base is Killarney, a tourist hub on the shores of Lough Leane that has been welcoming visitors for over two centuries. Perhaps you’d like to visit fifteenth century Ross Castle or the magnificent Victorian mansion, Muckross House, with its formal gardens. Hop aboard a jaunting car to see the sights in the traditional way or take a boat trip to Innisfallen Island, home to monastic ruins dating back to the eleventh century. Or head to Killarney House and Gardens, a three-hundred-year-old estate lovingly restored to its former glory and where you can tour the period rooms and experience the beauty of this peaceful haven. Splendid sightseeing includes the seaport city of Cork, set on the River Lee and home to pastel painted buildings. We explore the stunning Ring of Kerry, a lengthy route that circumnavigates the Iveragh Peninsula taking in rugged countryside, panoramic seascapes and secluded villages. We also enjoy a guided tour of the fair city of Dublin with its fascinating history and many attractions.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We journey to Cairnryan for our ferry crossing to Ireland then onwards to our overnight hotel.

Day Two. We continue to the excellent Gleneagle Hotel on the outskirts of Killarney and check in for our four night stay.

Day Three. Today we wind our way to the breathtaking Ring of Kerry. This awesome region is blessed with an unspoilt landscape of fine beaches, lush countryside, ancient monuments and sleepy settlements. It also presents an amazing insight into the country’s ancient heritage with Iron Age forts, old monasteries, and villages steeped in folklore amid a landscape carved from the Ice Age.

Day Four. A free day for independent sightseeing. Perhaps enjoy a stroll into Killarney or use the hotel’s shuttle bus. Maybe you’d like to hop on a jaunting car to see the sights, take a boat trip, visit fifteenth century Ross Castle, explore the magnificent
Victorian mansion, Muckross House or follow the town trail map to learn the history of its quaint streets.

Day Five. Our treat today is the seaport city of Cork, home to riverside walks, quirky museums, flamboyant art galleries, welcoming craft beer pubs and cosy coffee shops. Perhaps visit the gothic Cork City Gaol, an imposing castle-like building where you can step back in time as you wander through the wings, viewing the cells featuring wax figures and graffiti. Explore the seventeenth century star-shaped Elizabeth Fort where you can take in panoramic views as you walk its mighty walls. Or simply admire the city’s triple-spired St Fin Barre’s Cathedral and stately city hall. We call at Blarney Woollen Mills on our way back to our hotel.

Day Six. We check out of our hotel and travel to the fair city of Dublin for a guided coach tour of the many must see sights such as St Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College, the General Post Office building, and the controversial Monument of Light – a silver spire that pierces the sky above O’Connell Street. Afterwards, we continue to our overnight hotel.

Day Seven. After breakfast, we head for our ferry back to Scotland after a magical holiday.
