This fascinating holiday is based in the cathedral city of Sheffield, known as The Outdoor City, where nature meets culture. It is home to the famous Crucible Theatre, which hosts the World Snooker Championships. This vibrant city is also the UK’s greenest metropolis with over sixty percent of its space dedicated to parks. It boasts the award-winning Winter Garden, the largest urban glasshouse in Europe, home to thousands of species of plants. There is also an array of art galleries, the neo-classical City Hall, theatres and Grade II listed botanic gardens. Our sightseeing takes in Chatsworth House, a grand stately home standing in beautiful parkland amid the picturesque Peak District National Park. The mansion is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and we include a guided tour so you can really experience this astonishing landmark and learn the stories about the people and artefacts that have shaped its history. We visit quaint Eyam, forever known as the plague village thanks to the seventeenth century Black Death when locals contained an outbreak of plague by isolating themselves. Other Peak District delights take in Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock. Finally, we take a step back in time with a ride on a vintage tram at Crich Tramway Village.
