Call to Book
Based in a pretty little pueblo called Roses that stretches between the sea and mountains on Spain’s Costa Brava. Relax on the beautiful beaches or hop aboard a pleasure cruise around the rocky coastline. A former Greek colony, you’ll find evidence of the ancient city as well as a natural marina with a network of canals. Holiday highlights include our trip on the Little Yellow Train of the Pyrenees, one of the great railway journeys of the world where the track winds through leafy forests, past gushing streams and upwards to the mountain village of Font Romeu. On another day, we hop aboard the distinctive red and white Train du Pays Cathare et du Fenouilledes - a must do tourist railway trip that takes you deep into the verdant heart of the Pyrenees.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. We journey to Hull for the overnight ferry to the continent enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. We continue to our overnight dinner, bed and breakfast stop.
Day Three. We arrive at Roses and check into our hotel for our seven night stay.
Day Four. Morning at leisure. In the afternoon we hop aboard the Roses Express land train and rumble into the mountain landscape of Cap de Creus Nature Park – a natural wonder with soaring cliffs and hidden coves.
Day Five. We travel into the French Pyrenees where we indulge in some tasting of local products at the medieval walled commune of Thuir. In the afternoon, it’s all aboard the historic Little Yellow Train at Villefranche where our carriage climbs upwards, scaling dramatic landscapes to the Pyrenean village of Font Romeu. After some time to look around the village, we return to our hotel by coach.
Days Six & Seven. Two days at leisure to enjoy the charms of Roses. Perhaps you’d like to visit the Citadel of Roses, military fortification, hop aboard a glass bottomed boat for a sail around the coastline or simply laze on the beach.
Day Eight. Returning to France, we travel to Rivesaltes where we board the Train du Pays Cathare et du Fenouilledes. Relax as you trundle though a land of vines and castles, slowly climbing until you reach the quaint hamlet of Axat where you’ll have free time.
Day Nine. Another thrilling day as we journey on the spectacular Núria Valley Rack Railway. One of the only ways to access the valley, this rack railway showcases this part of the world at its rugged best as it climbs seven miles from Ribes de Freser. Take in the beauty of this peaceful oasis where the glassy waters reflect the greens and browns of the forests and where the only traffic is the occasional sailing boat drifting past.
Day Ten. It’s adios Spain and bonjour France as we head to our dinner, bed and breakfast stop.
Day Eleven. We continue to our ferry back to Hull with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Twelve. From Hull, we make our way home.
