Llandudno is a delightful coastal town that promises all the fun of a traditional seaside break with promenade Punch & Judy shows and a pleasure pier with games arcades and cafés. Above the town is Great Orme limestone headland and the resort’s tramway takes over 200,000 visitors each year up to this nature reserve to take in stunning vistas. Or perhaps you’d like to hop aboard the cable car to reach the summit? Don’t miss Great Orme Mines – the world’s largest prehistoric copper mine and one of the most astounding archaeological discoveries of recent times. Discover how life was for civilians during World War II at the Home Front Experience, browse exhibits showcasing Llandudno’s history at the local museum or view contemporary art at the Mostyn Gallery. Or make your way to Happy Valley Botanical Gardens where points of interest include a druid stone circle, a bust of Queen Victoria and a camera obscura which dates back to 1860 as well as lovely landscaped gardens. If you’d rather just relax, unwind on the sand dunes at West Shore Beach.

Your Excursions

Caernarfon, Anglesey & Beaumaris

We start today in Caernarfon, home to a famously imposing castle built by King Edward I in the thirteenth century. Later we cross the Menai Bridge to the island of Anglesey where we pause at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a village best known for having the longest place name in Europe! We also enjoy free time in the picturesque town of Beaumaris where the highlights include a seventeenth century courthouse and yet another of Edward I’s ambitious buildings, Beaumaris Castle.

Llanberis Lake Railway

All aboard our narrow gauge steam train to relish the timeless charm along with the magnificence of Snowdonia. Our nostalgic journey takes us alongside Lake Padarn, past thirteenth century Dolbadarn Castle and next to the glassy waters of Llanberis’ twin lakes. We proceed through Padarn Country Park, joining the 1845 slate railway route and enjoying breathtaking views of Snowdon. Our vintage steam train stops at Gilfach Ddu, where you can visit the National Slate Museum or spend time at the gift shop and café.

Porthmadog & Betws-y-Coed

Our first treat today is Porthmadog, an enchanting port, rich in maritime history and featuring a range of craft shops as well as a museum telling the story of this handsome harbourside town. We continue to the quaint hamlet of Betws-y-Coed, perfect for a relaxing stroll – perhaps stop at endearing St Mary’s Church.

Kensington Hotel

Owned by the Beardmore family for over three decades, this classically styled seafront hotel is managed by experienced staff and is a place where guests return year after year. Enjoy dinner in the traditional restaurant overlooking the north shore promenade, sip your favourite tipple in Eric’s Bar then perhaps trip the light fantastic on the maple sprung dance floor.
