The Rhine Valley is a land of myths and legends where ancient castles crown the hillsides and vineyards cling to the slopes above enchanting riverside towns. This captivating holiday presents the opportunity to spend days appreciating this stunning region from a river cruiser then nights on dry land in the traditional town of Assmannshausen. Our truly delightful ports of call include fun-filled Rudesheim, endearing Bacharach and historic Koblenz, where the Rhine meets the majestic Moselle.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. We travel to Hull for our overnight ferry to Rotterdam enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. We stop in Koblenz with its cultural monuments and atmospheric squares before making our way to the Lamm Hotel in magical Assmannhausen arriving in time to unwind before dinner.
Day Three. This morning we set off on a river cruise from just outside the hotel heading to the popular resort of Rudesheim. Perhaps wander the quirky alleyways or explore the historical treasures that reach back through the ages such as the gothic Eagle Tower and the tenth century Bromserburg Castle. If you’re feeling brave, visit the Middle Ages Torture Museum and learn about witches, the Inquisition and medieval punishments! We rejoin our coach and return to the hotel late afternoon.
Day Four. We sail to St Goar, famed for the treacherous Lorelei Rock that once lured sailors to a watery grave and thirteenth century Rheinfels Castle, the largest and most imposing castle on the Rhine. From here we hop aboard a paddle steamer to Bacharach which features an adorable market place complete with cobbled lanes and half-timbered houses. After time to explore we catch a river cruiser back to Assmannshausen.
Day Five. Today we proceed to Cochem, a traditional German village on the banks of the Moselle River where legend, history and folklore are woven into every alleyway and snaking streets of wine taverns nestle beneath storybook Reichsburg Castle. Here we board our river boat for a short scenic cruise.
Day Six. We say auf weidersehn and head north to our ferry back to Hull with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Seven. From Hull, we make our way home.
