Based in the picturesque town of Altenmarkt im Pongau in the Austrian state of Salzburg, we take in the chocolate box landscape of the Austrian Lakes and discover the impossibly pretty locations where the famous movie, The Sound of Music was filmed. Look forward to exploring the Salzkammergut, a spectacular region surrounded by sparkling lakes and stretching from Salzburg to the peaks of the Dachstein Mountains. Here we call at pretty as a picture Hallstatt, the most photographed village in Austria and home to a charming market square, fairytale dwellings and a subterranean salt lake. The lakeside town of Mondsee is another treat and is where you’ll find the beautiful church where the wedding scene in The Sound of Music was filmed. Other gems include a day in Salzburg, forever associated with Mozart and The Sound of Music, and an excursion to the landmark resort of Kitzbühel – a medieval town with an alpine flower garden and a fourteenth century church.
