||Mon 28 Oct, 2019
Lovely Llandudno nestles in a sandy cove between the limestone headlands of Great and Little Orme with mighty Mount Snowdon towering in the background. Known as the “Queen of Welsh Resorts”, this traditional seaside town boasts the longest pier in Wales where you’ll find cafés, gift shops and bars along with amusement arcades and panoramic coastal vistas. A must do on your free day is a visit to Victoria Station from where you can take a trip on Britain’s only cable-hauled tramway, climbing high through a nature reserve to the Halfway Station Exhibition. Perhaps you’d like to discover the town’s history at the local museum or browse contemporary art at the Oriel Mostyn Gallery. If you’d rather just relax, then make your way to West Shore Beach and unwind on the sandy dunes. Out and about we visit the idyllic island of Anglesey, take the reknown Portmeirion and the harbour town of Portmadog.
Caernarfon, Anglesey & Beaumaris
We start today in Caernarfon, home to an imposing castle built by King Edward I in the thirteenth century. Later we cross the Menai Bridge to the island of Anglesey where we pause at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a village best known for having the longest place name in Europe! We also enjoy free time in the picturesque town of Beaumaris where the highlights include a seventeenth century courthouse and yet another of Edward I’s ambitious buildings, Beaumaris Castle.
Portmeirion & Porthmadog
Our day begins with a drive to Tremadog Bay where we visit the Mediterranean style village of Portmeirion, familiar to many as the classic setting for the TV series, The Prisoner. This stunning coastal resort enjoys a cliff top setting and is one of Wales’ premier visitor attractions. It was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis who wanted to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without being spoiled. From here, we make our way to the delightful harbour town of Porthmadog, rich in maritime history and featuring a range of craft shops.
The Queen's Hotel - Llandudno
Resting on the Victorian promenade just a two minute walk from the beach, the Queen’s Hotel boasts striking views over the bay, Great Orme and the pleasure pier. There is a cosy lounge bar and regular entertainment.
Merrion Hotel - Llandudno
We’re pleased to be able to offer The Merrion Hotel once again in 2019. It enjoys a perfect location on Llandudno’s promenade overlooking the pier and just a minute’s walk from the beach and town. There are comfortable guest lounges and regular entertainment to enjoy.
