Eastbourne oozes charm with a timeless seafront bordered by period architecture dating from the town’s beginnings as a Victorian seaside resort. Graceful and unspoilt, it is home to the famous Carpet Gardens and boasts award-winning beaches, a traditional bandstand and its historic Old Town blends seamlessly with a modern marina. Wander along the level promenade or hop aboard the seafront train for a fun way to see the sights. Make your way to Eastbourne Pier where you can step back in time and enjoy afternoon tea in refined splendour. Perhaps head to Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park for a stroll around the five acre lake and gardens or take a locomotive trip through the picturesque grounds. Elsewhere you’ll find the remarkable Redoubt Fortress, a circular fort built during the Napoleonic wars. It was also used during both First and Second World Wars and houses exhibitions of military campaigns.

Your Excursions

Hastings, Battle & Carr Taylor Wines Vineyard

Hastings has a sand and shingle beach, pleasant promenade and pleasure pier. Its well-preserved Old Town features an enchanting blend of narrow streets, half-timbered dwellings and hidden passageways and is a delight to explore. Perhaps visit Hastings keep and bailey castle where you are transported back in time as you learn how the 1066 battle unfolded. We continue to nearby Battle where the abbey is a historical landmark that was built on the site of the battle. We round off our day with a visit to Carr Taylor Wines Vineyard for a talk and taste session.

Lewes & Brighton

The historic market town of Lewes is flanked by the chalky South Downs, dominated by an imposing Norman castle and has an abundance of antique shops. After a look around we move on to Brighton where you might like to explore the landmark pier, visit a museum or art gallery or wander the narrow passageways, crammed with exotic shops and cafés.

Royal Tunbridge Wells

We spend a day in affluent Royal Tunbridge Wells, home to a colonnaded Georgian walkway lined with pavement cafés, shops and galleries (8 day holidays only).
