A holiday highlight is our visit to picture postcard Eilean Donan Castle, located on an island where three sea lochs meet. This much photographed fairytale fortress appears on more shortbread tins and calendars than any other Scottish landmark! Within its fortified walls you’ll find period furniture, Jacobean artefacts, fine art and ancient weapons. From here we continue to picturesque Plocktonfor some free time. More treats include Inverewe Gardens- an oasis of exotic plants, the pretty village of Pooleweon market day and Ullapoolon the shores of Lochbroom. Look forward to experiencing the nature reserve of Corrieshalloch Gorge, one of the natural wonders of the Highlands with its Victorian bridge over a tree-lined gorge, plummeting waterfalls and woodland birds. We stay at the Gairloch Hotel which overlooks the sea in pretty Gairloch. Its new manager – Tommy Sutherland, formerly manager at Oban’s Regent Hotel, promises great hospitality.
