Overview

Standing magnificently in forty-five acres of parkland near Harrogate, this eighteenth century Grade II listed mansion is said to be where King Edward VIII met Mrs Wallis Simpson. The spectacular grounds incorporate a fishing lake, putting green, tennis courts, archery, shooting, bowls and croquet as well as award-winning gardens. The splendid interior boasts a striking potpourri of styles with Tuscan columns, stained glass panels, mahogany doors, grand staircase and a marble fireplace – not to mention evidence of a secret chamber behind a bookcase!

Your Excursions

Harrogate
We enjoy a half day tour to this Victorian spa town, famous for its quaint mews terraces, the stylish Montpellier Quarter and the world famous Betty’s Tearooms.

York
This walled city is celebrated for its Roman, Viking and medieval heritage. At its beating heart stands a breathtaking gothic minster – truly a masterpiece of sculptured stone, bell towers and stained glass windows. Walk the city walls, visit the castle, explore the Jorvik Viking Centre or broaden your mind at one of the many museums.

Skipton & Grassington

We wind our way through the Yorkshire Dales to pretty Skipton. Here you might like to visit the ancient castle where you can explore every medieval corner from the Watch Tower to the Dungeon. Perhaps you’d rather treat yourself to a sail on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, stroll along the canal tow path to leafy Airville Park or visit the Craven Museum & Gallery. Afterwards, we enjoy a stop in enchanting Grassington, home to quirky shops and friendly pubs.
