Overview

The Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells is perched seven hundred feet above sea level, surrounded by beautiful countryside and makes a charming base for our thrilling train-themed itinerary. In your free time, perhaps follow the leafy trails in Rock Park, view the artefacts at Radnorshire Museum or simply relax and watch the birds on the lake. We venture out to experience nostalgic train journeys while feasting our eyes on spectacular scenery. Wales is blessed with a number of working smaller gauge railways and these ‘Great Little Trains’ often traverse astonishingly steep inclines and are a tribute to the engineers who built the lines.

Your Excursions

Brecon Beacons Mountain Railway
On this exciting excursion we wind our way into the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park where we board the Brecon Mountain Railway and enjoy stunning views as the train steams along the Taf Fechan Reservoir to Dol-y-Gaer.

Welshpool, Llanfair Light Railway & Tywyn
We head to the bustling market town of Welshpool, terminus of the lovingly restored Llanfair Light Railway, to board our carriage for a superb eight mile journey. In the afternoon, we continue to Talyllyn Railway, Abergynolwyn, for a spectacular steam train ride down the valley to the seaside resort of Tywyn.

Vale of Rheidol Railway & Aberystwyth
We snake through the mountains to the beauty spot of Devil’s Bridge to board the Vale of Rheidol Railway for the narrow gauge steam train ride down the valley to the seaside resort of Aberystwyth. Here you will have some free time to take in the pleasant promenade, sandy beaches, ruined castle and the respected university where Prince Charles once studied.
