The dramatic scenery of the Lake District beckons showcasing stunning lakes, soaring peaks and charismatic market towns. Nestling on the shores of Derwentwater, the heart of bustling Keswick is its quaint Market Square and 19th century Moot Hall. Cockermouth is home to a fascinating history wall that depicts the town’s past as well as colourful Kirkgate where you’ll find an artscentre. Bowness-on-Windermere has fifteenth century St Martin’s Church with its ancient wall paintings and intricate stained glass windows, while Kendal features rows of dwellings dating from the Middle Ages. An extra special treat will be our Mountain Goat Experience – a spectacular trip taking us off the beaten track on a route pioneered by the Romans followed by a ride on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and a visit to Muncaster Castle Gardens.
Keswick & Cockermouth
First up today we head to Keswick where you may like to visit one of the interesting museums or local art and craft galleries or stroll to the lakeshore and hire a rowing boat. From here we continue to the pastel painted market town of Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth and home to a memorial to the great poet as well as the Georgian townhouse where he was born.
Bowness-on-Windermere & Kendal
Cumbria’s most popular destination, Bowness-on-Windermere is a sprawling tourist town on the shore of Lake Windermere with a distinctive Victorian influence. This pretty lakeside resort is home to a stretch of the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and boat trips can be taken from the pier. We continue to charming Kendal with its castles, historic buildings and views to satisfy even the most demanding photographer.

We venture off the beaten track by minibus for a special excursion into the Western Lakes, taking us over the Wrynose and Hardknot passes to Upper Eskdale, Scafell and Scafell Pike. We pause to admire the outstanding views at Wastwater, enjoy a ride on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and visit Munster Castle Gardens (five day holiday only).
