The Rhine Valley is a captivating region of Germany, steeped in myths and legends where endless vineyards cling to the slopes above sleepy riverside settlements and mighty castles crown the hills. Our wonderfully mixed itinerary features a cruise on the Rhine to storybook St Goar, home to Rheinfels Castle, the largest and most imposing fortress on the Rhine and to notorious Lorelei Rock. We then hop aboard a paddle steamer to endearing Bacharach where you’ll be absolutely enchanted by the old buildings and winding lanes. We also explore fun-filled Rudesheim where we visit the Niederwald with its colossal Germania Monument, we pop into the tiny hamlet of Eltville and spend a day at the fragrant flower show in traditional Bad Schwalbach.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. We travel to Hull for our overnight ferry to Rotterdam enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. We make our way to the Lamm Hotel arriving in time to relax before dinner.
Day Three. This morning we set off on a river cruise from just outside the hotel sailing to St Goar, famed for thirteenth century Rheinfels Castle and the treacherous Lorelei Rock that once lured sailors to a watery grave. Perhaps catch the little land train called the Castle Express that whisks tourists up to the castle ruins. From here, we hop aboard a paddle steamer to gorgeous Bacharach which features an adorable market place, cobbled lanes and half-timbered dwellings. After time to explore, we catch a river cruiser back to Assmannshausen.
Day Four. We travel by coach to Rudesheim and to the soaring Germania Monument in the Niederwald: A huge statue built in the nineteenth century to signify the re-establishment of the German Empire at the end of the Franco-Prussian War. After a look around, enjoy free time in Rudesheim perhaps visiting tenth century Bromserburg Castle or the Middle Ages Torture Museum. This afternoon takes us to Eltville, home to a former Cistercian monastery that is now a winery.
Day Five. Our treat today is Bad Schwalbach where we include entry to the local flower show to take in the floral exhibits.
Day Six. We say auf weidersehn and head north to our ferry back to Hull with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Seven. We continue home
