Overview

Our Irish adventure gets underway with a stay at the seaside town of Bray where you’ll find a sand and shingle beach flanked by a wide promenade. Look forward to a day in dynamic Dublin taking in modern Irish history at the award winning GPO Witness History Visitor Centre on O’Connell Street followed by a guided walking tour and free time. Next day, a feast for the senses is in store with a visit to flowery Powerscourt Gardens before we move on to Waterford, a thousand-year-old city with a medieval flavour and a lively waterfront. We spend a morning in Cahir, a pretty town built around the best preserved medieval castle in Ireland and we explore the walled city of Limerick on the mighty River Shannon. We step back through time at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park then enjoy an overnight stay in Athlone – a gorgeous gem at the very heart of Ireland.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We journey to Holyhead for our ferry crossing to Dublin. After disembarking, we continue to Bray and check into the Royal Hotel & Leisure Centre in the heart of town for our two night stay.

Day Two. We head to Dublin Fair City where we visit the award winning GPO Witness History Visitor Centre in legendary O’Connell Street where a band of rebels stormed the building on Easter Monday 1916. Here you will experience the events of the Easter Rising from both sides of the conflict at this interactive attraction. Later, we take in a guided walking tour followed by some free time to continue exploring Dublin.

Day Three. Our first treat today is a visit to Powerscourt Gardens where lush flowerbeds mingle with striking statues. We continue to Waterford and check into the centrally located, family run Dooley’s Hotel for two nights.

Day Four. We meet our local guide then step back through the ages, exploring Irish history from the Viking to the Victorian era on a one hour walking tour of Waterford’s Viking Triangle. Waterford is home to a museum chronicling the cities history as well as Waterford Crystal where two centuries of crystal manufacturing unfold. After your tour, enjoy free time to continue sightseeing.

Day Five. We spend this morning in the Georgian market town of Cahir, situated on the banks of the River Suir near the Galtee Mountains and best known for its twelfth century castle and fairytale Swiss cottage. Later we move on to Limerick and to the City Hotel to check in for a two night stay.

Day Six. Our day gets underway with a guided walking tour around Limerick followed by free time. Conquered by the Vikings in the ninth century, this enchanting walled city is home to thirteenth century King John’s Castle, perched on King’s Island in the medieval heart of the metropolis. A commanding fortress, it has a state-of-the-art visitor centre that brings history to life. Perhaps take a cruise on the River Shannon, view the collections at the City Gallery of Art or discover rare antiquities at the Hunt Museum.

Day Seven. Our treat today is a visit to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park – an intriguing recreation of a nineteenth century village with a school, post office, hardware store and the ubiquitous pub! After time to explore, our journey continues to the contemporary Athlone Springs Hotel for our overnight stay.

Day Eight. After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
