We stay at the Hotel Mercure, centrally located in enchanting Ostend. This Belgian seaside town has a sandy beach, lovely promenade, a bustling fishing harbour and Fort Napoleon – a fortification built in 1811 and later used as a German artillery quarter in both world wars.
Sunday. We head to Hull to board our P&O ferry to Zeebrugge enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Monday. We travel the short distance to medieval Bruges for free time to perhaps take a canal cruise or a horse-drawn carriage ride. Later, journey back to Ostend and check in to our hotel for our two night stay.
Tuesday. A half day visit to Dunkirk where you can explore the port, visit Operation Dynamo Museum or the 13th century Belfry. Afternoon free in Ostend.
Wednesday. We check out and journey to Blankenberge, home to a beach, marina and a pleasure pier. Late afternoon we continue to Zeebrugge for our ferry back to Hull with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Thursday. Our journey home is punctuated with a few hours in fairytale York.
