The Lake District is an area of outstanding beauty with soaring peaks, glassy lakes and charismatic market towns. We take in the best with excursions to Bowness-on-Windermere, a sprawling tourist magnet on the shores of Lake Windermere with a distinctive Victorian influence then charming Grasmere, the onetime home of Wordsworth is where you’ll find the poet’s Dove Cottage. On another day we take in quaint Keswick offering craft galleries and rowing boats for hire. Our base is the welcoming County Hotel, a former coaching inn near the heart of historic Kendal and within easy reach of the river. Kendal itself is a delight with attractions such as Abbott Hall Art Gallery, which houses the Museum of Lakeland Life. GOOD COMPANIONS staying for five days can also look forward to an outing to Hawes to take in the atmosphere on market day before our insight into the thousand-year history of cheese-making as we enjoy a fascinating demo at Wensleydale Creamery as well as enjoying a Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese board with tea or coffee.
Situated near the heart of historic Kendal within easy reach of the shops and river, this comfortable former coaching inn promises a warm welcome and friendly service. There is a cosy lounge complete with sprung dance floor.
