With its rich history, unspoilt coastline, crystal clear sea and wonderful climate, Croatia must surely be the Med’s best kept secret. This jewel on the Istrian Peninsula has a tangible Roman influence with old cities and medieval towns blending beautifully with pretty bays and picturesque harbours. Our holiday is based in Rabac, formerly a tiny fishing village and now a thriving resort with a continental ambience, historical town centre and a long promenade backing a string of pebble beaches. Enjoy a boat cruise around the rugged coastline or a stroll along peaceful paths as you take life in the slow lane. If you can tear yourself away, fascinating excursions give us a flavour of Italy and Slovenia with visits to Trieste and Ljubljana.
Thursday. We travel to Hull for our overnight ferry to Rotterdam, enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Friday. We proceed to our overnight hotel in Germany where we stay overnight.
Saturday. We reach Austria where we enjoy another overnight stay.
Sunday. Continuing to Croatia, we pause at gorgeous Lake Bled in Slovenia and then it’s onwards to our hotel in Rabac arriving in time to relax before dinner.
Monday. Our excursion today takes us to Opatija on Kvarner Bay where you’ll find delightful gardens, dramatic fountains, elegant villas and a lovely promenade.
Tuesday. Explore Rabac at your own pace – perhaps visit the sixth century basilica and the Roman ruins.
Wednesday. Another day at leisure to relax or sightsee.
Thursday. Look forward to a full day guided excursion. Setting off from the harbour of Pula, we proceed to Rovinj with its charming old town featuring a warren of narrow streets and quaint squares. Then it’s onwards to historic Porec, home to a magnificent basilica with golden mosaics. Heading inland we visit Pazin, a traditional town dominated by a medieval fortress then stop at a Croatian farm to sample some local produce before returning to our hotel.
Friday. After breakfast we head to Italy where we enjoy a full day in the atmospheric city of Trieste where sights include the art gallery Museo Revoltella, the Church of San Giovanni and the impressive Victory Lighthouse that commemorates the fallen of the First World War
The Flower Complex overlooks the sea, gives direct access to the beach and a five minute stroll along a level promenade into the village. Fantastic leisure facilities include outdoor and indoor pools, mini-golf and tennis courts as well as lively entertainment.
