||Ramada Baren Goslar
This tempting twin centre holiday of contrasts is based firstly in striking Berlin, Germany’s vibrant capital and home to Checkpoint Charlie, the infamous Wall, Charlottenburg Palace and the legendary Brandenburg Gate. Then we slow the pace down a little as we move on to picturesque Goslar, located in Lower Saxony on the slopes of the Harz Mountains range. Here you’ll find a delightful UNESCO World Heritage Old Town with over a thousand years of history and characterised by traditional timber-framed buildings. Its unique silhouette is defined by a plethora of churches with soaring spires, old monasteries and elegant mansions. We spend a day taking in the glorious Harz Mountains nature preservation with its ancient unspoilt phenomena and fabled wilderness. On another day we discover Hannover, the cosmopolitan capital of Lower Saxony.
Day One. We journey to Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. We make our way to Abacus Tierpark Hotel in Berlin and check in for our two night stay.
Day Three. We spend today exploring Germany’s capital city, where the iconic Brandenburg Gate, the infamous Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag German parliament building and the upmarket Kurfurstendamm shopping area are just some of the highlights.
Day Four. Enjoy free time in Berlin before we move on to the gorgeous Harz Mountains and check into the Ramada Hotel Baren Goslar for our four night stay.
Day Five. This morning we explore the Harz Mountains, a scenic landscape of lush green hills and steep valleys dotted with picturesque medieval towns. Often referred to as “the colourful town of Harz”, Wernigerode’s centre has rows of charming, timber-framed houses dating from the fourteenth century and is overlooked by a fairytale castle. Nearby Quedlinburg is one of Europe’s best-preserved renaissance towns and where you can wander through seven centuries of timber-framed dwellings and quaint narrow lanes. The eye-catching Castle-Hill area is dominated by a stunning Romanesque church with a handsome façade.
Day Six. Free day to discover this German gem at your own pace. Enchanting attractions include the history laden eleventh century Kaiserpfalz Imperial Palace, the arcaded town hall and the pretty market square.
Day Seven. Our treat today in Hannover where you might like to explore Herrenhausen Gardens, visit the gothic Marktkirche Church, view the treasures at the Sprengel contemporary arts gallery or the exhibits at the Lower Saxony State Museum.
Day Eight. We bid auf weidersehn to Germany and head to our ferry back to Hull with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Nine. From Hull, we make our way home.
